  • PrepMatch CASPer Preparation Virtual Zoom Presentations (upcoming 10/18, 10/24, 10/26)

My name is Dr. Lior Krimus, a resident physician from the University of Toronto, and I am the founder of an educational platform called PrepMatch. We are the world’s first free peer-to-peer CASPer preparation platform. The CASPer is an online situational-judgement assessment used increasingly in professional schools in Canada and the United States including many medical schools, nursing schools, physiotherapy schools, dental schools, and others. Through PrepMatch, we seek to make free CASPer preparation equitable and accessible to students across North America.

We are inviting your students to join a Zoom presentation we are hosting that focuses on raising awareness about the CASPer test as well as about how PrepMatch can help them prepare for it!

Since we want to keep the groups small and intimate, we wanted to offer your students a special code that can grant them priority access: WVNRRV

The presentation will be taking place on October 18th, 24th and 26th at 6 PM EST / 5 PM CST (students can attend any seminar). We have a sign-up link here.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

  • Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine SJT Pilot

Situational Judgement Test Pilot 2023

The Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine is piloting a Situational Judgement Test or SJT during the 2023-2024 admissions cycle. The purpose of this pilot is to ensure that the content of the SJT scenarios and answer keys are valid for Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine’s context.

A Situational Judgement Test (SJT) is an assessment method which measures how a candidate believes they should behave when posed with a challenging professional dilemma. The SJT is not a test of knowledge or problem-solving ability, instead it aims to assess professional attributes (domains or competencies) which are considered to be important for successful progression through training and performance in one’s job role.

How to complete the pilot

If you are applying to the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine during the 2023-2024 application cycle (for 2024 intake), you are invited to complete the SJT pilot. As this is a pilot, your SJT score will not be used as part of the application review and will not contribute to any application score.  In other words, participation in this pilot will have zero impact, positively or negatively, on your application during the 2023-2024 application cycle.

Process: Please see the link below to complete the pilot. First, you will be required to create an account, please click ‘No account yet? Create one now’. This will take you to the non-disclosure agreement (NDA), followed by the pilot questions, and finally a candidate evaluation survey.

Ensure to include your ‘candidate identifier’ correctly at the beginning of the test. Remote proctoring is in place for this pilot, please complete this test somewhere that you have access to a webcam, and have your identification (e.g. driver’s license or passport) at the ready, see below for more information.

Prize Draw

We appreciate your participation, as this assists us with advancing our admissions process.  All candidates who fully complete the SJT will be entered into a prize draw to win a VMCVM swag basket including a VMCVM jacket. Please note that only the first 500 individuals will be able to sit the pilot test, after this, the below link will be void.

Link to the pilot test:

https://app.evolveassess.com/#/taketest/a93f3d07-4a11-499a-9d29-0eeab66f6cfe

Pilot SJT Information

Context

As the SJT is a measure of aptitude for entry to Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, the candidates assume the role of a student when answering the questions.

Although you are asked to assume the role of a student, each scenario is reviewed by Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to ensure that the scenario does not contain any knowledge of procedures or policies that would only be applicable in certain localities, as this would disadvantage certain candidates.

Target Domains

The SJT measures the following 4 competencies:

  • Professional Integrity
  • Team Collaboration
  • Empathy and Compassion
  • Adaptability

Scoring

Each scenario requires you to rate between 5 and 8 response options per scenario. You will be asked to rate the responses to the scenario using a series of options, using the scale below:

  • Rate the appropriateness of the following responses to this situation. (1 = Extremely desirable; 2 = Slightly desirable; 3 = Neither desirable nor undesirable, 4 = Slightly undesirable; 5 = Extremely undesirable).

SJT scenarios are scored against pre-determined keys that have been determined throughout the development process by SMEs. This means the scoring of the test is standardised and fair to all candidates.

Remote Proctoring

As this pilot is for high-stakes selection and to ensure the validity and fairness of the responses captured through the pilot process, remote proctoring is in place. During the test your session will be monitored via webcam. Prior to the pilot beginning you will be asked to grant permission to your webcam for this purpose.

You will also be asked to capture an image of your identification document (e.g. driver license or passport), so please have this ready. If you do not have access to a webcam, or an issue with your identification document, please contact Dr. Jacque Pelzer ([email protected]).

All data from proctoring sessions will be destroyed once this has been reviewed by the team at Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine and Work Psychology Group.

Tips for Candidates

  • The SJT is not negatively marked, therefore candidates are encouraged to answer all questions.
  • Read the questions carefully. There may be times when you would like more information to answer questions; you need to give your best answer using the information provided in the question.
  • Try the sample questions provided.
  • You have 75 minutes to complete this test. There are 32 scenarios in total.
  • Please complete the test in one sitting.
  • After you have completed the test, you will be taken to a screen which will contain a link to complete short feedback survey.

Technical Information and Queries

During the test, if you have any queries about the pilot or you experience any technical issues before or during the test, please contact Dr. Jacque Pelzer at Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine ([email protected]), or alternatively Jordan Buxton at Work Psychology Group ([email protected]).
