Health Professions Advising

Health Professions Week

Thank you to everyone that attended events during our 3rd annual Health Professions Week!

Cookies & Connections: Health Professions Kickoff🍪🎉

Cookies & Connections: Health Professions Kickoff officially launched Health Professions Week by creating a welcoming, social space for students to connect over cookies and shared interests in the health professions. The event featured a badge decorating station, “Why Pre-Health?” board, and lots of opportunities for students to connect with each other through shared experiences.

Test Prep: Learn About Exam-Proven Strategies & Student Success Stories ✏️📊

This two-part session was designed to help students feel confident in preparing for standardized admissions exams. The event began with practical test-taking strategies and sample questions, followed by a Q&A with recent MCAT and DAT test takers. Students had the opportunity to ask questions and learn directly from peers who had successfully navigated the testing process. Attendees also received discounts codes and had the chance to win test prep prizes!

Health Professions Program Fair 🏥🎓

Health Professions Program Fair

The Health Professions Program Fair brought together representatives from a wide range of health professional schools to connect with students interested in pursuing careers in healthcare. Students had the opportunity to ask questions, learn about application and admissions processes, and gain insight into program requirements and timelines. The fair supported students at various stages of their pre-health journey by providing direct access to information and guidance from programs across the health professions.

Suturing Workshop & HPSP Info Session ✂️🪡

Participants enhanced their suturing skills while learning about opportunities to fund their education through military service via the Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP). The session featured an overview of HPSP, a Q&A with U.S. Army Medical Recruiters, and hands-on instruction with guided practice of basic suturing techniques.

The Final Check-Up Service Project 🩺✨

The Final Check-Up Service Project was organized by the Health Professions Week Student Planning Committee, who coordinated donations from visiting schools and local businesses and led this hands-on service event. Participants assembled a total of 50 hygiene kits which included essential personal care items such as hand sanitizer, tissues, soap, disinfecting wipes, deodorant, and feminine hygiene products.

The completed kits were donated to Shelter House, a local nonprofit that provides crisis intervention, safe housing, and supportive services to individuals experiencing homelessness and survivors of domestic violence in our community. This initiative highlights the commitment of our Pre-Health students to community service, health equity, and promoting well-being as they prepare for future careers in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physician assistant studies, and other healthcare professions.
