Fall 2026 Biology Course Updates
Starting Fall 2026, several Biology courses are getting a refresh to boost flexibility and reduce stress.
✔ BIOL 213 & 311 are now a 3-credit lecture + 1-credit lab (215 & 313) instead of one combined 4-credit class.
✔ BIOL 308: Foundations of Ecology and Evolution will undergo several structural changes.

- Previously a 5-credit, writing-intensive course with linked lecture, lab, and recitation, BIOL 308 will now:
- Transition to a 3-credit lecture (BIOL 308) and 1-credit lab (BIOL 338)
- Eliminated the recitation component
- Biol 308 will no longer carry the writing-intensive designation
- BIOL 308 will remain a required core course.
✔ New required writing class: BIOL 400: News & Views (3 credits), taking over for BIOL 308 as the writing intensive requirement.

The clinic will take place at Mubarak Mosque in Chantilly, VA, with Humanity First serving as the Community Host Group. Remote Area Medical (RAM) is a national nonprofit organization that provides free, high-quality medical, dental, and vision care to underserved communities through large-scale pop-up clinics.
RAM clinics serve as a vital resource for individuals and families in need, offering services such as dental cleanings, fillings, extractions, and X-rays; eye exams, prescriptions, and on-site eyeglasses; as well as women’s health services and general medical care. By bringing healthcare directly to communities, RAM helps eliminate common barriers such as cost, lack of insurance, and transportation.
This event is a valuable opportunity for students interested in healthcare or community service to gain hands-on experience while making a direct impact.

Health Heralds Volunteer & Internship Programs
Health Heralds is an international student-run nonprofit dedicated to improving health literacy and expanding access to essential hygiene resources for communities in need. Health Heralds was founded in the San Francisco Bay Area during the COVID-19 pandemic, when our team began producing PPE for frontline workers. Since then, the organization has grown to include volunteers from over 30 countries, with teams focused on education, events, operations, and communications.
Through our work, we aim to make public health information more accessible and actionable for communities around the world. Our volunteers develop clear, engaging educational materials, such as slide decks, infographics, blogs, and digital outreach campaigns, based on peer-reviewed research and guidance from organizations like the WHO and CDC, as well as local health authority data. Our goal is to translate complex public-health topics into youth-friendly content that communities can easily understand and apply in their daily lives.
We are excited to share opportunities for students to get involved with our mission. Our volunteer roles are especially well suited for students interested in public health, community engagement, science communication, leadership development, or social media. In the coming months, we will also be launching additional internship and leadership positions, and we look forward to connecting with motivated students who are interested in gaining meaningful experience while contributing to global health education.

The VCU CERT program is purpose-built to specifically address the needs of students who wish to enhance their competitiveness for admission into professional schools, particularly medical (M.D. and D.O.) and dental (D.D.S. and D.M.D.) programs. The CERT program has been effectively training pre-professional students since its inception in 2009. Since 2016, over 170 CERT graduates (and counting!) have successfully matriculated into M.D. programs – more when matriculants into D.O., D.D.S., and other professional programs are counted.

University of North Carolina: Virtual Dentistry Shadowing – Prosthodontics Event (5/1)
One of the many ways in which Adams School of Dentistry is leading innovations in advanced dental education and care is through the school’s Virtual Dentistry: Shadowing series, where virtual visitors like potential students and interested experts can observe oral health care providers in action, interact with them and ask questions.
The events feature live streams of complex oral surgery procedures that vary in topic based on the patients who have consented to participate in the live, educational event. Participants have shadowed various cases and treatments in real time on a variety of different specialties, from an up-close perspective of two composite resin restorations, orthodontic and prosthodontics case studies, to more complex oral surgery procedures like autotransplantation, which involves the transfer of a tooth from its location to another location surgically in the same person.

2027 AMCAS Coursework & Transcript Webinar (4/21)
Submitting transcripts and completing the coursework section are important steps in the AMCAS® application process. This session will help applicants navigate common issues that arise when submitting official transcripts and entering coursework, and provide guidance to prevent processing delays.

Choosing a program that is the right fit for you is important as this is a place where you are entering the profession of OT, a place where relationships with peers and faculty are integral to your success, as well as a financial investment in your future. Information Sessions provide information on VCU’s Entry-Level OTD program, the application process, and an overview of the College of Health Professions, and VCU/MCV campus. 2026-2027 CASPA (PA School Application) Updates
- The COVID-19 Essay will be removed for the upcoming cycle. There are no expected changes to the Personal Statement and Life Experiences essays; however, an optional essay known as the Situational Decision Making essay will be included:

Join the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) and VetMedPathways for an in-person Pre-Veterinary Career Fair on Saturday, April 18, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Grand Hyatt Washington in Washington, DC. Designed for middle school, high school, and college students, this exciting event provides valuable insights into the field of veterinary medicine and offers an opportunity to hear from a prominent figure in veterinary medicine, connect with veterinary medical college representatives, and explore pathways to a rewarding career.
This free event is for any middle school, high school, and undergraduate student with an interest in the veterinary medical profession.

Pre-Health Test Prep Borrowing Program
Interested in borrowing MCAT or DAT prep books completely free? George Mason University Health Professions Advising is excited to offer free MCAT or DAT prep books from our library to current students that apply to our borrowing program!
Our Test Prep Borrowing Program operates on an rolling-based system. This means that applications can be submitted at any time and are processed continuously. There are a limited number of books available; thus, all applicants may not be awarded books.
These books are primarily useful for content review; therefore, we strongly suggest incorporating additional resources (see Test Prep Resources) in your study plan to gain more question exposure and strengthen testing stamina.
Eligibility:
1. Must be a current George Mason University student or graduate at the time of application.
2. Must have a scheduled MCAT or DAT within 6 months (confirmation is required).
3. Demonstrate financial need
There are a limited number of books available; thus, all applicants may not be awarded books. Other factors such as GPA, number of prerequisite courses completed at the time of application, etc may also be considered.
