Our Test Prep Borrowing Program operates on an rolling-based system. This means that applications can be submitted at any time and are processed continuously. There are a limited number of books available; thus, all applicants may not be awarded books.

These books are primarily useful for content review; therefore, we strongly suggest incorporating additional resources (see Test Prep Resources) in your study plan to gain more question exposure and strengthen testing stamina.

Eligibility:

1. Must be a current George Mason University student at the time of application.
2. Must have a scheduled MCAT or DAT within 6 months (confirmation is required).
3. Demonstrate financial need

There are a limited number of books available; thus, all applicants may not be awarded books. Other factors such as GPA, number of prerequisite courses completed at the time of application, etc may also be considered.

For more information, please visit our website: go.gmu.edu/prehealthprep. If you have any questions, please email [email protected].

If you would like to donate your gently used books to our program, please drop them off at the Undergraduate Education office (Johnson Center, Room 228) during business hours (Monday-Friday 9am-5pm) or email [email protected].

  • Tiny Tots Health Initiative: Volunteering Opportunity

We are a non-profit aimed at bringing healthcare education through handwritten cards to local under-resourced healthcare facilities that service youth from low-income backgrounds and minority statuses especially.

As we are trying to expand to have a greater impact, are there any mailing lists where this message can be distributed (ex. prehealth/predental). Any interested person can feel free to reach us through this email in order to be a potential representative for the state. As a state liaison, one will be able to help find and add new healthcare facilities as well as be the first point of contact for volunteers.

Our website is below where you can find more about us.

  • HEAR-VA Refugee Wellness Clinic Volunteer Opportunity

My name is Mahsa Ahmadi, and I am an alum of the pre-med program at George Mason University. I am currently working as a Community Health Worker with HEAR-VA on their new initiative, the Refugee Wellness Clinic, which operates at the Mason and Partners (MAP) Clinics in Culmore and Manassas.

Website: https://www.empoweredcommunities.com/ecop-1
Flyer: VOLUNTEERING FLYER

We serve a large number of Afghan patients who require interpretation services in Dari and Pashto. To better support them, we are seeking volunteers to assist with interpretation during their medical visits. This is a valuable opportunity for students interested in patient-centered care and working with vulnerable populations. Volunteers will gain firsthand experience in a clinical setting while helping bridge the language gap for Afghan refugees. Fluency in either Dari or Pashto is required. Interested applicants can email [email protected] with their resumes. Thank you for your time and support in sharing this opportunity with potential volunteers.

Best regards, Mahsa Ahmadi

  • Casper Updates

2025/26 Casper: shorter test, same quality Many of our partner programs have been asking us to shorten the length of the Casper test, to reduce the overall burden on applicants. Based on that feedback, we are very pleased to introduce an updated Casper format for the upcoming cycle:

  • New format: 11 scenarios instead of 14
  • Fewer questions: Two per scenario for typed responses (previously three). No changes for video responses
  • Reduced time: 65–85 minutes (previously 90–100 minutes)

To ensure psychometric quality, each question will now be rated individually. Research confirms this maintains—if not improves—reliability, with strong correlations to the previous format. Casper test price There is no change to the Casper fee this year, which remains as follows:  Medicine:$85 (includes 7 distributions), $18 for each additional distribution

  • Other health professions:$50, plus $16 per distribution
  • Applicants who have been approved for a Fee Assistance Program will have their fee waived if they provide proof of approval when reserving their test (e.g. AAMC, CASPA)
  • Free Knack Tutoring For Select Courses

Learning Services:  In addition to this new service, the university’s Learning Services office continues to provide a variety of free, experience-based learning opportunities for the George Mason community, including one-on-one academic coaching, academic success workshops, outreach presentations, and online resources. In a working group last year, faculty identified help with broad skills like these as one of the biggest needs for undergraduate students struggling in their classes, so please continue to encourage students to use this resource: https://learningservices.gmu.edu/.

Other Tutoring: George Mason academic units continue to offer tutoring in a variety of areas. Learning Services maintains (to the best of their ability) a list of these tutoring services offered by academic departments and offices around the university: https://learningservices.gmu.edu/tutoring-resources2/

We hope you will encourage students interested in being a tutor or who may need help in their classes to visit these websites and services! Please feel free to reach out to Vicki Dominick, Associate Director of Learning Services, with questions.

  • AAMC Fee Assistance Program: 5 Things You Need To Know

The 2025 AAMC Fee Assistance Program application is now open. Here are five things you should to know:

  1. New in 2025! AAMC Fee Assistance Program recipients can elect to receive the MCAT Official Prep products every time they are approved. The AAMC FeeAssistance Program now offers expanded access to MCAT Official Prep products. Starting in 2025, Fee Assistance recipients can receive MCAT prep materials every time they are approved for benefits instead of just once in their lifetime. This change provides greater flexibility and support for students prepping for the MCAT exam without a limitation on accessing AAMC’s prep products through the program.
  2. Applicants must fulfill three requirements to be eligible for the AAMC Fee Assistance Program. 1) They must have a U.S.-based home address. 2) Each household reported on their application must have a 2024 total family income equal to or less than 400% of the 2024 national poverty level for that family size. 3) They must be preparing to apply to medical school. Specifically, applicants for AAMC FeeAssistance must not be currently accepted or enrolled in any medical school, have graduated from medical school, or be preparing to apply for residency.
  3. The AAMC Fee Assistance Program includes an Electronic Residency Application Service® (ERAS®) application benefit. The AAMC expanded the program to include residency applicants who were previously approved for the FeeAssistance Program benefits during their medical school application process. Please note that medical students are not eligible to apply for the Fee Assistance Program as it is only available during the premedical application phase. Qualifying applicants will automatically receive a 60 percent fee discount on up to 50 ERAS applications when they go through the residency application process.
  4. Applicants aged 26 and over are not required to submit their parents’ financial information. If an applicant is age 26 on the day their application is submitted, they will not be required to submit their parental financial information.
  5. Some medical schools waive secondary application fees for fee assistance recipients. Schools include this information in their Medical School Admissions Requirements (MSAR) profiles. This information can be found under the “Secondary application – Fee Waiver Ability” section of the MSAR.

If you or your advisor colleagues have any additional questions, please email [email protected]. If your advisees have any questions about the AAMC FeeAssistance Program, please encourage them to contact [email protected]. • AOA/AOSA Opportunities in Optometry Grants (due 7/1)

To promote diversity and equity in the optometric profession for generations to come, the American Optometric Association (AOA) and the American Optometric Student Association (AOSA) have created the AOA/AOSA Opportunities in Optometry Grant program. This fund is designed as a one-time $1500 stipend for under-represented minority students interested in the field of optometry to help defray the costs associated with applying to optometry school.

Multiple grants of $1,500 each will be awarded annually to students who are chosen by the selection committee. Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria to be considered by the selection committee. These funds can be used toward the very first steps necessary when pursuing a doctor of optometry degree – off-setting the cost of the OAT exam, school application costs, professional attire or travel costs associated with interviews.

The 2025 application deadline is July 1. Please allow us 60 days after the deadline to review applications and inform you if you are a grant recipient. If you have questions on the application, please reach out to the Optometry Cares Program Manager, Molly Brown, at [email protected]. Apply here.

Are you a motivated, energetic and responsible individual? Ever wanted to go to a summer camp that provides a life-changing experience? We thought so! We are actively seeking people like you for Camp Promise! You have seven (7) locations to choose from! Whether it be in your local area near Brackney, PA., or another location that might be a better fit for you – we welcome you!

The backbone of our program is our volunteers. Typically, volunteers, who serve as counselors and medical staff, are patient and creative. They also have an upbeat disposition, as well as an interest in serving our population of campers with a range of neuromuscular diseases.
