MedDreams Foundation Volunteer Travel Abroad Opportunity
MedDreams is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded by Dr. Sonul Gulati (GMU alum) and Dr. Amar Mukhtar. MDF is focused on two core goals:

Providing medical care to underserved communities through international mission work

Creating meaningful educational and clinical experiences for pre-health students
We recently completed our second international mission trip in Monterrey, Mexico, where our team saw over 600 patients and prescribed more than 1,000 medications. I’ll include a link below highlighting the experience.
Our next trip is scheduled for July, 2026, and for the second time, we are opening limited spots to students. This is a unique opportunity for students to gain exposure to global health, work alongside physicians, and build a strong foundation for their future in medicine.

CASPER Test Updates
Changes for the 2026/27 cycle
-
- Streamlined Casper testing: Applicants in the same test level and country, regardless of discipline, can now test together for increased scheduling flexibility, with the exception of US Medicine. Health professions applicants will still receive one quartile across health programs, and will only receive an additional quartile if they also apply to programs outside of the health professions.
- Updated test names: Some Casper test names are changing. Programs have been asked to update their admissions website to reflect their new test names.
- Duet update: Duet will not be offered this admission cycle. Programs currently using Duet this cycle will continue to have access and support through the end of the current admissions year.
2026/27 Casper test price

- The price to take Casper for most US health professions applicants is $50 plus a $20 distribution fee.
- For learners applying to US medicine programs, the Casper test fee of $85 will now include nine free score distributions, up from seven, enabling applicants to distribute their scores to two additional programs at no additional cost. For distributions over nine, the distribution fee will increase by a nominal $2 to $20 per program.
- Applicants who have been approved for a Fee Assistance Program will have their fee waived if they provide proof of approval when reserving their test (e.g. AAMC, CASPA).

VCU OTD Information Sessions (1/30 & 2/27)
Choosing a program that is the right fit for you is important as this is a place where you are entering the profession of OT, a place where relationships with peers and faculty are integral to your success, as well as a financial investment in your future. Information Sessions provide information on VCU’s Entry-Level OTD program, the application process, and an overview of the College of Health Professions, and VCU/MCV campus. Applicants also have the opportunity to meet faculty and current student.
Information Sessions will be held on the following dates in the College of Health Professions building at 900 E Leigh St, Richmond VA 23298. Sessions will start at 11:30 am EST, unless otherwise noted. Sessions will last ~ 2 hours and include information on VCU’s OTD Entry-Level program, the application process, an opportunity to interact with faculty and current students, and a tour of the College of Health Professions building, and VCU/MCV campus. - The COVID-19 Essay will be removed for the upcoming cycle. There are no expected changes to the Personal Statement and Life Experiences essays.
- The CASPA Fees for the 2026-2027 Cycle:
- Initial Fee: $185

- The Fee Assistance Program will cover the cost of the first two program submissions for all qualified applicants.

Eligibility
Sophomores and Juniors who are currently enrolled in U.S. accredited colleges/universities and are authorized to work in the U.S. are eligible for the program. Inova Trauma Center – Fairfax is proud to offer an inside look at trauma care through our Trauma Acute Care Surgery Externship. This program is designed for premedical students who are considering a career in surgery. It requires a full-time, two-week commitment, providing students with valuable insight and hands-on experience within the continuum of trauma care. Now available: Application for the 2026 program Application Directions Our externship program highlights the coordinated and systematic approach of a Level I Trauma Center in delivering optimal trauma care to the community. This is an uncompensated opportunity for pre-med college students to engage in an observational educational experience. The goal is to provide selected externs with an in-depth view of the personal and professional rewards of a career in trauma care. Externs will have the opportunity to shadow the multidisciplinary trauma team, including trauma surgeons, trauma nurses, social workers, physical therapists, and other allied healthcare providers. The George Washington Summer Program Advancing Research on Cancer (GW-SPARC) engages undergraduates who will form the next generation of scientific leaders in a mentored summer research experience at the George Washington University (GW) Cancer Center. This program is intended for undergraduates considering Ph.D. training and a career in research. This summer program fosters active engagement in cutting-edge research, exposure to contemporary cancer research techniques, the impact of cancer in different communities, and preparation for research careers. There will be no opportunities for clinical shadowing. Students will live and work in the heart of D.C., just blocks from national monuments, museums, and entertainment. At the end of the summer, all students participate in a poster session with other undergraduate researchers. Stipend The program will provide $5,000 for 10 weeks participation, paid in two installments upon arrival. Additional funds up to $500 will be provided for travel to/from GW. Students are encouraged to stay in GW housing which will be provided by the program at no cost to the student. Eligible applicants meet the following criteria:

Requirements: Online application, personal statement, two letters of recommendation and official transcript. Any current college juniors, seniors, graduates and post-baccalaureate students who are preparing to apply to a dentistry, medicine, pharmacy or physical therapy health professional school or program. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.75, and have completed three years of college coursework, including organic chemistry I and II, (note; organic chemistry not required for physical therapy track). All applicants must have U.S. citizenship or Permanent Resident status. Program description SAEP is a six-week summer program that simulates the first-year of dentistry, medicine, pharmacy or physical therapy professional school instruction. Participants take academically intensive instruction in each of their chosen tracks in addition to non-credit core-coursework in anatomy, biochemistry, and physiology. SAEP participants attend learning skills and test-taking workshops, mock interviews, professionalism seminars, current health care topics, coaching and community service activities in an interprofessional framework. At the conclusion of the program, participants receive an assessment of their readiness to attend professional school. A modest stipend is provided to participants. Upon acceptance to SAEP, participants must agree to the following:

- Attend all academic, professional, and social events or activities
- Reside in on-campus housing during the program
- Not be employed while participating with SAEP, neither on a full-time nor part-time basis
- Not enrolled in a summer course whether online or in person during May or June

Clinical Shadowing Program The Anderson Orthopaedic Clinic’s shadowing program offers high school and college students a unique opportunity to see how classroom concepts are applied in real-world medicine. This hands-on experience includes one-on-one mentorship with our physicians across various practice settings, from outpatient offices to hospitals and operating rooms. By the end of the program, students will gain valuable insights into the practice of medicine and the delivery of exceptional orthopaedic care. Why Participate?

- Eligibility: Open to college students and rising high school juniors/seniors interested in orthopaedics. Exceptional high school sophomores may also apply.
- Duration: The shadowing experience lasts between 1-4 weeks.
- Settings: Participants will shadow physicians in various environments, including outpatient offices, hospitals, and operating rooms.

Pre-Health Test Prep Borrowing Program
Interested in borrowing MCAT or DAT prep books completely free? George Mason University Health Professions Advising is excited to offer free MCAT or DAT prep books from our library to current students that apply to our borrowing program!
Our Test Prep Borrowing Program operates on an rolling-based system. This means that applications can be submitted at any time and are processed continuously. There are a limited number of books available; thus, all applicants may not be awarded books.
These books are primarily useful for content review; therefore, we strongly suggest incorporating additional resources (see Test Prep Resources) in your study plan to gain more question exposure and strengthen testing stamina. Eligibility: 1. Must be a current George Mason University student or graduate at the time of application. 2. Must have a scheduled MCAT or DAT within 6 months (confirmation is required). 3. Demonstrate financial need There are a limited number of books available; thus, all applicants may not be awarded books. Other factors such as GPA, number of prerequisite courses completed at the time of application, etc may also be considered. For more information, please visit our website: go.gmu.edu/prehealthprep.
