- Moon River Senior Care Certified Nurse Aid (CNA) Course
I am writing to share information about the Nurse Aide course offered during winter break at Moon River Nursing Careers in Ashburn, VA. This is excellent training for any student pursuing a career in healthcare. The successful completion of the course prepares a college student or recent graduate to take the Virginia Board of Nursing exam to become a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA). This credential opens the door to thousands of jobs in hospitals, assisted living, memory care, nursing homes, home health and hospice.
The Nurse Aide training program is 140 hours. Students can complete the 60 hours online prior to attending the 32 hours in the skills lab and 48 hours in the clinical setting. This course can be completed over the winter break. The course fee is $2,150 and students can make interest-free payments while taking the course. They can start the online portion as soon as their registration is complete. The fee covers all equipment and supplies. The students will need to have completed CPR training or can take it at our school at a discounted price.
For students in the gap year before medical school or physician assistant school, we offer a scholarship/job placement program that covers all fees for the Nurse Aide course. The students receive the training as outlined above and then commit to work at least 24 hours per week at Moon River Senior Care, a licensed home health agency. Many choose to work full-time and gain 1,000-1,500 hours of experience in patient care. The pre-health internship program accepts 10 recent graduates annually. The highly respected program provides direct care experience and educational sessions with healthcare experts, discussions, presentations and a reflection paper. We write strong letters of recommendation for interns applying to Medical School and Physician Assistant school and have a proven track record for students being accepted.
The sessions this winter break are as follows:
1st winter session
We appreciate your assistance in informing your pre-health students about the Nurse Aide training and internship opportunity. Any interested students should contact us to receive an invitation to an informational session on ZOOM. Following the session, the students who choose to register will get a link to start the online portion within 72 hours. They can contact us at (703) 801-1180 or email ([email protected]) to learn more about enrolling in the Nurse Aide training program.

- Conversations To Remember Volunteer Opportunity
My name is Harin Kim, and I am a student volunteer with Conversations to Remember, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, dedicated towards combating loneliness and isolation felt by senior citizens. We are very interested in partnering with your organization to have your members volunteer with us to help these seniors, many of whom are suffering from dementia. Our virtual visit program matches 2-3 college students with residents of long-term care, assisted living, and memory care communities for virtual video visits. These seniors have been suffering from isolation, and your members could really brighten their days just by speaking with them. We provide training to the students in the program about the best ways to interact with the seniors, as well as additional support throughout their service. Since these visits are virtual, your members can do it without any travel. This is both convenient, and allows more of the volunteers’ time to be spent volunteering, rather than commuting to their volunteering location. We provide this program free of charge to seniors across the country, and have students from around the country as well. We would very much like to partner with you, and hope that your members would like to volunteer to help our seniors. Typically, students volunteer one hour per week. Each call lasts up to one hour, based on the senior’s attention span and mood on each day. We expect students to volunteer for approximately 16 weeks, so that they can build a friendship with the senior. The students are matched based on the times that they’re available, with a senior who is available at the same time, and they will have a regular, weekly appointment for their visit. Students wishing for more visits or other opportunities that allow them to volunteer more hours can be accommodated with different ways to volunteer, such as assisting us with our social media, call support, or outreach. We provide our program year-round, and start new students every week. Please feel free to contact me with any questions that you have about the program, or to look through our website, at https://conversationstoremember.org. Your members can register to volunteer by filling out a volunteer interest form on our website.

- Summer 2025 Service to Science Scholars Research Program
We are excited to share that we are now taking applications from students to join the next cohort of the Service to Science Scholars Research Program at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System for the summer of 2025.
This year we have funding to support up to 6 paid, full-time summer research positions for undergraduate (junior or senior standing), graduate students in psychology and related fields, and medical students. During our 10-week Service to Science Scholars Research Program, students will gain real-world experience conducting cutting-edge Veteran-focused research at a major VA medical facility. Our nationally and internationally recognized award-winning VA faculty are studying a range of questions relevant to Veteran populations, from PTSD, suicide risk and prevention, traumatic brain injury, cognitive aging, severe mental illness, addiction, sensor technologies/mHealth assessments, clinical trials, to risk and resilience. In addition to hands-on research experience, the program includes faculty-led weekly seminars on research professional development, mentoring (grad students only), statistics, and other relevant research methodologies and topics. All students present a flash talk at the Annual Service to Science Scholars Research Program Symposium, and many past participants have elected to present their projects at national and international scientific conferences.
Given the overall goal of this research experience is to diversify the VA’s future scientist workforce, we will be giving preference to applicants who are US Veterans, and strongly encourage students who are current US service members, a dependent of a current US service member/US Veteran, or who are from backgrounds historically underrepresented in sciences (e.g., students from minoritized, low-income, differently abled, first-generation college students, and other backgrounds), to apply.
Below is a link to our webpage with additional information about the program structure and details on how to apply:
If you have any questions, please contact either Dr. Melissa Polusny at [email protected] or Dr. Snezana Urosevic at [email protected].

- Weill Cornell Medicine: Travelers Summer Research Fellowship Program
The Travelers Summer Research Fellowship Program is designed to provide 25-27 premedical students with experiential research training, meaningful insights into the field of medicine, and enhanced knowledge of the conditions and policies impacting the health of traditionally underserved populations. By engaging in laboratory or clinical research, under the supervision of a faculty member, the T-SRF participants learn how to investigate a specific research question. Participants are thereby provided with a research training experience allowing them to acquire investigative techniques that can be later applied as they pursue their medical education. The didactic curriculum has several themes. There are content delivery around common public health issues including healthcare for the under and uninsured; healthcare disparities; research basics; a financial aid presentation and practical advice from medical students on the medical school application process and preparing for the MCAT. In addition to these, participants engage with a wide variety of physicians in career panel discussions including primary care, pediatrics, neurology, ophthalmology, obstetrics and gynecology, surgery, radiology, emergency medicine, and internal medicine. The highlight of the curriculum is a panel discussion populated by diversity and admissions deans from NY medical schools addressing the question “What are medical schools looking for?” With the resumption of in-person program in 2022, the program also provides each participant with an opportunity to shadow a physician. As research training is the primary mission of the program, shadowing opportunities are limited. This program is intended for junior and senior students planning to apply to medical school after May 2025. See WCM_TSRF_Brochure_2025_v2_web and T-SRF_’25_Premed_Adv Ltr for more details. If you have any questions, please email [email protected] or visit our website: https://medicaleducation.weill.cornell.edu/medical-education/premedical-programs/travelers-summer-research-fellowship-program Deadline: February 1st, 2025
